Walter L. Smith, II, LEP,
CFEA

Walter Smith is the Chief Environmental
Professional for W.L. Smith & Associates.
He
earned his bachelor's of Science Degree from Florida A & M
University's College of Engineering. While in college, Mr.
Smith, had the opportunity to study engineering and research at
the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, Republic of
South Africa. His research included mining methods, water
resources, and hydrology. He also had the unusual experience of
working in a South African coliary mine while studying at the
coliary institute. While at the institute, Mr. Smith
participated in the country's rehabilitation program to restore
lands after mining operations.
Mr.
Smith has worked in the environmental engineering field for over
ten years. He has experience in the regulatory and private
sectors and is well versed in regulatory processes and
government regulations. He has worked for Florida Department of
Environmental Protection and two water management districts.
Mr. Smith served as the Grant Director for the
Tampa-Hillsborough Urban League's Historic West Tampa
redevelopment project known as the "Tool Kit." With this
program, Mr. Smith oversaw a $2-million dollar budget, twelve
contractors, office staff, and program development. This
lead to Mr. Smith creating a community cleanup project after
seeing the need for cleanup assistance and environmental
education for Tampa Bay's marginalized communities. He has
served as the Environmental Policy Director for Sen. Les
Miller's U. S. Congressional Campaign.
Currently, Mr. Smith is serving as the
advisor to groups in marginalized communities. He is
consulting these groups on how to obtain Brownfields Study grants and issues of
environmental disparities.
Mr.
Smith is qualified to conduct OSHA, HAZWOPER, and HazMat
training. He has experience with construction development,
environmental development, site assessments, remediation and
technical writing. Mr. Smith is currently researching the
effects of contaminated water storage in the Florida Aquifer.
